The London Acorn School

By January 18, 2015Our School

The London Acorn School (est. 2013) is set in a National Trust listed building in south west London.

We work in partnership with parents to create lo-tech/no tech childhoods and follow the holistic Whiting Educational Model for family schools which originated at The Acorn School in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire (est. 1991) and has proven and successful outcomes.

We currently educate children between 3 and 6 years in Kindergarten and between 7 and 14 years in Lower and Middle School. Acorn education has a unique and extremely successful curriculum and project based university entrance scheme for Upper School students aged 15 to 18 years and this is set to launch in London (for children who have acquired Acorn Middle School skills) in 2016.

Our current student intake includes children from mainstream independent and state, waldorf steiner, montessori and homeschool educational backgrounds.

Please take time to consider the information provided through our website and then call us for an appointment to discuss how we could enhance your child’s school and childhood experience. Please note that because our school is centred on promoting deep student concentration and focus, we no longer offer classroom tours, however afternoon meetings with prospective teachers can be arranged and we welcome visitors at regular Open Days where children’s work is on display.

Please note that the capacity of our building means that Open Day tour numbers must be limited and you may be politely requested to wait outside in the rose garden for the next available tour. We try to make sure that all visitors can tour the cottage and meet a teacher, but we cannot guarantee this for all comers if attendance is high. Please come as early as possible to ensure a tour place.

Articles on The London Acorn School and our no tech/low tech ethos have very recently appeared in the media, including the Guardian and Telegraph. The school supports Graeme Whiting, Founder and Headmaster of The Acorn School in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire in his commitment to an electronics-free environment for children to encourage their innate creativity and personal growth. We thank all our school families, and our deeply dedicated teaching and support staff for all their help and hard work to make such childhoods a reality here in London.
